I’ve lived in both Tokyo and Kyoto and by far prefer Kyoto. Kyoto has the perfect balance of nature vs urbanity, quietness yet excitement. There are top level restaurants and museums. You don’t have to worry about the last train. As someone who does events, I feel a strong sense of community.
Friendly service, friendly people, insane amount of things to do and see (hundreds of shrines and temples), good food, kamogawa riverside, not many large suffocating concrete buildings, one of the best cities in the world
It’s just so safe and quiet here, and I love being able to walk or cycle pretty much anywhere I need to go.
I’ve been living in Kyoto for 6 months. It’s quiet, you can walk from one place to the other instead of taking at least 30 minutes of subway, not many skyscrapers, nice river walk, beautiful temples
Super easy to travel within the city by bicycle. As long as you know which side of the river you are you don’t need a map to go home
The convenience of living in a city without feeling like you live in a city.
Mountains everywhere I look, it’s quite nice. I feel connected with the nature even while im living in a city
