We are staying in Gion area in Kyoto and doing a day trip to Osaka. We want to be in the general shopping area/Umeda. Which train to take and which stations?

As per title, is there a direct train between our area in Kyoto and where we want to be in Osaka?

And should tickets be bought in advance? It will be a saturday.
