Japan raises alarm over recent measles outbreaks in Tokyo and other cities

1. How bad is it? We are going there in June 😬 are there anti-vaxxers in Japan too??

2. Fun fact: I caught measles as a kid so I never had the vaccination. So when I applied for graduate school here, I needed to submit results for an antibody test to prove it. Only then did I learn that our antibodies deplete over time. 🥲

   (Edit: mine were fortunately above the acceptable levels but still, I had no idea until then).

3. On Australia the measles case are increasing too, usually anti vaxxer who travel abroad (Bali is prime example) and bring back the disease and spreading it when they go about their daily routine. So there should be more than 1 exposure site.

4. As anti-science sentiment grows in the countries that send many tourists to Japan, so too will the diseases those tourists bring. Domestic policy IS international policy.

5. What is this America? 

6. Just don’t let in people from countries where these diseases are still prevalent.
