Hi everyone, hoping to get some advice from those who have been through this.
It's been a year and a half since I came to Japan. I am planning to leave my current job, and I don't have anything lined up yet. I have an Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services visa valid until 2028.
Two questions:
- How long can I stay in Japan while job hunting after leaving my current job? I have heard 3 months, but I am not sure if that's accurate or how strictly it's enforced. Does my visa status change the moment I quit, or is there a grace period?
- What part-time work is actually allowed while I am between jobs on this visa? I am not sure what my options are. I have seen conflicting info online about whether job hunting counts as a "permitted activity" under my current status.
I am not looking to stay unemployed long; I just want to understand my options so I don't accidentally violate my visa conditions while I figure out the next step.
Any advice from people who've navigated this in Japan would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.
