Hi everyone, my family (Americans working at OIST) recently moved to Okinawa, and we love it here. It’s a beautiful place and the exact big change we were looking for from the city we moved from (Singapore).
We moved into a house and have only one other neighbor – an elderly Japanese couple. It is important to me that we are have a good relationship with them. Not like we’re besties, but I want to show them respect.
I’m wondering if there is a traditional gift we can give them as a sign of friendship/good intentions, or if that sort of thing isn’t really done here. Any information or ideas would be very helpful. Thanks!
