I will be moving to Japan next month for my Japanese language course, and my current Japanese level is around N2.
I have no problem recognising or typing the kanji I’ve learnt, but I haven’t learnt how to write kanji except a few hundred. I haven’t really faced any problems due to this as I can just type them.
So for those living in Japan or have studied there, are there cases where you must know how to write kanji, and if yes, how often is that? Or can you get by with just knowing how to read and type them?
