What the title would suggest. Kind of a rant built up over the past couple of months of seeing discourse. People are so overly negative about where new japan is at today which makes me upset because the last couple of months are the best it’s felt in years.
Firstly with the “everyone is leaving” narrative that feels like it’s everywhere. Most of the people pushing this narrative either don’t watch the product at all or just watch major shows. This would’ve been fair in 2023-24 ish, when talent like okada, ospreay and jay white left. The difference between them leaving vs Finlay, evil, SANADA, and hiromu is that they were top stars with years of pushes behind them. Guys like Finlay and SANADA were great talents but were forced up the card due to the absence of the aforementioned top stars. Again, I enjoyed their runs as top guys but it’s been telegraphed to us for years that tsuji, oiwa, yuya, etc are the future.
That brings up a larger point about gedos booking. He’s great at building up a couple of massive stars over a long period of time and telling the best stories in wrestling around them. He lost a lot of those top stars and was forced to have guys act as placeholders in the meantime. It felt a lot like 2005, where the future of the promotion is still building up to being stars while the top of the card was occupied by less interesting stars. This new generation is starting to feel like finished products and step into that legitimate star role, much like we’ve seen in the past
Tldr: I think new japan is going to be just fine and people are overreacting about certain stars moving on
