Takayuki Kobayashi, policy chief of the Liberal Democratic Party, says Japan has a role to play in seeking dialogue with Iranian leader

On the 21st, Takayuki Kobayashi, policy chief of the Liberal Democratic Party, expressed his view that Japan and Iran should seek dialogue between their leaders regarding the tense situation in the Middle East. "Japan has a historical relationship with Iran, and there is a role that only Japan can play. I hope they will explore further discussions between the foreign ministers, and possibly even between the leaders," he told reporters in Nobeoka City, Miyazaki Prefecture.

Regarding Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi's statement that he is prepared to allow Japanese-related vessels to pass through, Kobayashi emphasized, "This is an unprecedented message. We should view this positively as an opportunity to strengthen strategic diplomacy."
