Hope this fits within the rules, if not, apologies, Mods, please remove. I would rather have taken the picture without the happy couple but they were doing a prolonged photoshoot with a professional photographer and left me no other option.
May I ask what time is it? Usually this street is pretty busy
foreigners cant get out that early lol
This is the Gion district, isn’t it? They banned photography completely the last time I was there in 2019. I was there before the ban, and I still have some photos.
What day of the week and what time of day?
Finally someone who shares my experiences. I’ve been to Kyoto three times (September 23, August 24, August 25) and I not once had any problems with crowds. Maybe I am just the luckiest person alive or my sightseeing plans were exactly the opposite of all other tourists but I even had some temples and shrines almost for myself. Even at fushimi inari I could take pictures of the gates without any people around.
I have to add that I haven’t visit gion old town yet (only Yasaka Shrine) so I can’t say anything about that
Cute couple!
I was in that area yesterday from 2:30-4:30 and it was fine. Perfectly walkable, no wall to wall masses. Got in a restaurant with 0 wait and was able to get alittle bit of shopping done on the streets leading to Yasaka. I had been really worried based on everyone’s Reels and photos.
I wonder if it’s due to the reduction in Chinese tourists?
This brings back memories… I ended up in Kyoto in early March 2020, for 4 days… Just locals, Japanese tourists and a couple random foreigners. Compared to the usual crowds today, literally almost nobody was there… Good times.
I think there are far less chinese tourists right now.
