If you found a wallet would you turn it in?

I was on the train when I found a wallet. I was sure it came from a group of businessmen that were just sitting in the area,so I got off and went to the group and asked if it belonged to someone. It did. All was well. I was able to catch the next train.

I was telling my friend this story who said that I should’ve either left it on the train for the staff or got off at my home station and turn it in there.

That what I did wasn’t the “Japanese way of doing things”

So if it were you would you turn it in or find the person?
