Converting Foreign License in Okinawa

Hello. I’m planning to convert my foreign license from GA soon to a Japanese license. I have all my documents ready and I understand I still have to take a 50-question test and road rest.

For people who specifically took their tests in Naha:

  1. How strict were they with your documentation for proof you staid in your home country for at least 3 months? I heard horror stories from a lot of other prefectures, but I also know Okinawa tends to be a lot more relaxed. I have my passport with exit and entry stamps for Japan only, flight tickets, lots of piled up mail, VA health appointments slips officially mailed, and 4 months of bank statements. Would this be enough? Unfortunately, I have no utility bills, rental agreements, tax documents/pay slips, or transcripts, which I know they like to see. I can, of course, collect anything additional that may help.

  2. Is the written test just the Karimen written exam, or is it a different 50-question test all together? Any recommendations for driving test practice for a few hours (like a driving school)? I’ve been driving in Japan for a few years via a SOFA license, (I am under a regular visa now) so I got the outsider kind of understanding, but I also get that the driving test is testing the ability to pass the test rather than actual practical driving, so I would like to prepare as much as possible.

  3. Any other advice you guys have I would greatly appreciate. Also I’d love to hear experiences you had.
