Weight creeping up anyone managed to turn it around here?

I’ve been living in Japan for a while now, and my weight has slowly climbed to 137kg. It didn’t feel sudden, just small habits adding up over time. Convenience store food, easy meals after working late, and not moving as much as I probably should.

I’ve been stuck in that cycle of thinking “I need to sort this out,” but not actually doing much about it. I even looked into things like Ozempic or Mounjaro, but if I’m honest, I haven’t even been consistent with the basics yet.

What really got me was catching my reflection the other day. Not a photo, just walking past a mirror. It stopped me for a second. The weight gain just felt very real all at once.

I think part of the struggle here is routine. I get home tired, and it’s just so easy to grab something quick from Lawson or 7/11 instead of cooking. Portions aren’t huge here, but I still manage to overdo it, especially with snacks and late eating.

At the same time, I know Japan should make this easier. There’s a lot of walking, healthier options if I actually choose them, and generally smaller portions compared to back home.

So I’m trying to reset a bit. Nothing extreme, just eating more simply, cutting back on snacks, and actually making use of the walking instead of avoiding it.

I’m still considering medical options, but I don’t want to use that as a way to delay starting.

Has anyone else in Japan been in a similar spot and managed to lose weight here?

What actually worked for you with the lifestyle here, especially around conbini food and busy schedules?

Right now I’m just trying to stop going in the wrong direction and build something sustainable.
