The number of foreign visitors to Japan last month exceeded 3.4 million, marking a new record high for the month of February.
According to the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), approximately 3,466,700 foreign visitors came to Japan last month.
This represents a 6.4% increase compared to February of the previous year, setting a new record for the month of February.
Factors contributing to this include the Lunar New Year (Chinese New Year) falling in mid-February this year, as well as sustained strong popularity of travel to Japan, leading to increases in visitors from many countries such as South Korea, Taiwan, and the United States.
On the other hand, visitors from China – where self-restraint from travel to Japan has been encouraged – decreased by 45% compared to the same month last year, marking the third consecutive month of decline.
