Got a 10M yen offer in Japan — sounds great, but it’s actually a pay cut from my current job. Is the experience worth it?

Hey r/movingtojapan,

I'm 23, single, no dependents. I work as a software engineer, and I was offered a job with a large, well-known company in Japan, 10M yen gross (~$65K USD). The job is interesting, and the company is well-known worldwide, which is really attractive to me from a professional perspective.

So, my concern is that back home, I make 11M yen equivalent *after* taxes. So, from a raw income perspective, moving to Japan means taking a step back, especially considering the income taxes in Japan and the cost of living in Tokyo, where I assume I'd be working.

A bit about me: I’m a young, single man under 25. I wouldn’t go so far as to say I’m a huge fan of Japan, but I do have a certain fondness for the country. Right now, I want to develop my career as an international specialist rather than a local one.

Questions I’m interested in:
1. I’ve seen many people say that 10 million yen is a good salary, but I still don’t understand – is it a good salary or just above average?
2. Will I be able to live comfortably on this money as a young, single man?
3. Is it worth it financially and in terms of career prospects?
