Hi, I will be in the south-eastern countryside-ish area of Nagoya for a couple of weeks with my spouse (visiting for research) in late May, where I'll be staying at a place that's providing me free access to a bike. Generally, how safe/friendly is it in this part of the country, especially as a young-ish female? I would like to bike around and visit coffee shops, restaurants, parks, shrines etc during the day, and if needed, I would like to use whatever public transportation is available. Is it okay for me to use my bike on the sidewalks and through fields with paving, or should I stay on and stick to the roads? Is Google Translate a reliable crutch for me to communicate with service workers? I know the most basic Japanese phrases, but I don't think I will be able to learn the conversational language in time. Are there places that I should generally avoid as a "tourist"? I would like to keep myself occupied, but I don't want to intrude on locals. I know some of this advice has been asked before, but I couldn't find much pertaining to this specific part of the country. I appreciate any additional advice as well!
