Hi all!
Super excited to head to Japan for my first time in May. I have around 3 weeks in Japan and have already booked a return flight to Okinawa a few days after I land in Tokyo.
Currently the plan roughly goes as:
4th – 7th: Tokyo
8th – 12th: Okinawa (renting car)
13th – 15th: Hakone + Mount Fuji hunting (renting car)
16th – 17th: Tokyo (2 full days)
18th – 19th :Take bus to Matsumoto morning and stay the night and then go Kamikochi next day and take bus back to Tokyo
20th – 21st: Kyoto (Arashiyama)
21st – 26th: Osaka (Universal & Nara, flight out on the 26th)
I can appreciate it sounds very full on especially for a first time but logistically it seems doable and I’m sure to be back in Japan one day to explore Tokyo more.
My main question is regarding Kamikochi, as a nature lover, it’s been on my list to visit but is it worth seeing in this itinerary as I will be seeing Hakone and Fujikawaguchiko? It looks incredible but conscience that the bus there is 5ish hours and the bus back is another 5 hours. Kamikochi can be replaced with either closer nature day trips nearer to Tokyo or simply spending more time in the city. Great shame I’m missing Cherry Blossom season as that would be an incredible thing to witness.
Would love to know what people think?
