I've attempted to get into NJPW on 2 other occasions, but this year I really committed to following the shows chronologically, and even getting a NJPW World subscription and watching the vignettes and interviews. But I've noticed that a lot of their cards are filled with nothing but fluff tag matches that follow the same format:
Any variation of multi-man tag matches always have only one team with a fall guy. For example on the latest nights NJC, these were everybody who took the pin sans NJC matches of course;
Daiki Nagai
Dick Togo
Masatora Yasuda
Gedo
Tatsuya Matsumoto
Tomoaki Honma
And those are six people out of two nights, meaning some of them took the pin TWICE. Now I understand that they are in a rebuilding process, they lost a bunch of their upper midcarders and Yota Tsuji literally has nobody to feud with because they put all the main eventers in his stable.
But if you are structing over half of youe card with 8 minute tag team matches where the last 2-3 minutes breaks down to your big name guys conveniently getting thrown out of the ring, YOUR WORLD CHAMPION, so the Young Lion or the old man can take the pin, it becomes extremely difficult to want to watch your undercard. I'm becoming legitimately more interested in post-match interactions from these matches rather than what happens in these matches
