卑弥呼 — Japan’s first ruler, then erased from its own history

The Chinese wrote about her. The Japanese almost didn’t.

Himiko appears extensively in the Wei Zhi (魏志), described as a powerful shaman queen of Yamatai. Yet in Japan’s own earliest chronicles, she’s a footnote at best.

The gap between how China recorded her and how Japan remembered her says a lot about who controlled the narrative.

Just uploaded a deep dive into Himiko’s story and what the Yamato court may have wanted forgotten.

Curious if anyone here has visited sites connected to Himiko — Hashihaka Kofun, Makimuku, etc.
