My family sent me a package, it got stuck in customs for like 2 weeks after arriving to Japan, we didn't know why, but since most of it was perishable items my called FedEx (not the Japanese branch) and they said some of the contacts weren't allowed because they needed import tax, so we had two options discard the package or pay, we choose discarding it since there were lots of perishable products and by now that weren't usable anymore, we told FedEx to throw away the package.
fast forward two months, I get a letter for FedEx asking me to pay for it or face "future consequences"
am I obligated to pay ? or is it a scare tactic ?
