Exporting a personal vehicle to the U.S. – Experience and Recommendations?

Good Evening!

I'm currently living in Japan and planning to buy a classic kei truck (Subaru Sambar), use it for a few months, and then export it to the U.S. later this year (likely July/August).

I'm moving to Michigan, and the vehicles I'm considering meet the 25-year import rule, so U.S. import and registration shouldn't be an issue.

The problem I'm running into is finding a company to handle the export. Most exporters I've contacted only want to ship vehicles that were purchased through them.

Does anyone have experience exporting a personally owned vehicle from Japan? I'm trying to find companies (exporters or freight forwarders) that will handle:

• Export deregistration
• RORO shipping
• Export paperwork

I'm in the Tokyo area, but willing to travel.
