Moving to Tokyo

Hi all,

I've enrolled to a language school in Tokyo for 2-years and will move end of September for a start in the first week of October. Family is supportive, and so are the friends I've told so far.

My school has recommended an agency for finding housing. Except, it's a tad early so I've delayed the decision whether to search for a private, furnished apartment or go to a shared house of like say ~3-5 people and am just doing some research for now.

I'm a 33M. I'll be at school half the day, and will spend the other half working remotely from home.

I'm extroverted, so I do want and need regular social contact. However, to be able to have a solid night's sleep without hearing neighbours through paper thin walls is going to be important. I consider myself a relatively early sleeper (usually in bed 9:30/10pm), so currently thinking the private apartment is best. Ideally with a space where I can separate my study from a bedroom (is that a 1DK?).

I'd live within 10-15 minutes walking to the school in Takadanobaba, or maybe a stop or two away by train. As I'll be commuting to school daily, it'll make my daily commute convenient.

A few questions:

1) How much does rent typically cost around these areas, once Internet and utilities are considered?

2) Would you say private apartment is the right way to go, or should I consider a share house?

3) Is there any other stuff I should think about or consider when searching for accomodation in Japan other than size, location, and rent?

4) Should I consider narrowing my search to Takadanobaba itself, or are there other nice suburbs to consider that fit the bill, and why?

Would appreciate your insights.

Thanks!
