Hi everyone,
I’m planning a working holiday in Tokyo, and I’m trying to figure out the best area to live in, especially in terms of share houses / social housing.
My budget is roughly around 45,000–85,000 yen a month, and I’m mainly looking for a place with a social environment. Ideally I’d like to live with a mix of people Japanese residents as well as other internationals (e.g. Europeans, Koreans, etc.), to find some new friends under my stay.
Right now, I've been looking at areas Like Urawa, but I’m unsure if they might be a bit too far out in terms of social life and access to central Tokyo. At the same time, I’m wondering whether living somewhere more central like Shinjuku/Arakawa is worth the higher cost (and smaller rooms…)
So I guess my main question are:
- Which areas of Tokyo (or Greater Tokyo) would you recommend for someone on a working holiday who wants a social/international atmosphere?
- Is it better to stay more central, or slightly outside (e.g. 20–30 min commute)?
- Do places like Shiki/Urawa feel too “quiet” or disconnected for this kind of experience?
- Any specific neighborhoods or share house companies you’d recommend?
I'm trying to balance between price, commute and social life, so I'd really appreciate any insights or personal experiences.
Thanks in advance!
