A question from a local: How do you all see Okinawa?

Hey everyone! I’m Japanese and currently living in Okinawa, and I’ve always been curious about something.

For those of you from English-speaking countries — what does Okinawa mean to you? Is it well-known as a tourist destination back home, or is it more of a hidden gem? I’d love to hear what you already know (or thought you knew) about Okinawa before coming here or getting interested in it.

And on the flip side — is there anything you’ve been curious about but couldn’t easily find answers to? Happy to share a local perspective!
