How much of a difference does JLPT even for those with passable Japanese?

Currently on JET and down the road I’d like to work in a company. The JLPT is in a couple weeks and I’m debating if it’s worth cramming for N2 (very very up in the air if I’ll be able to pass it even if I spend literally every second of my free time studying for it) or if just having a Japanese resume and connecting with people will be enough to clear the “Japanese bar”. What’s your opinion on the test itself? Does it really open up a lot of opportunities having it as opposed to not?
