Mercari has a credit limit on my debit card? Advice please 🙇🙇

Hi friends, I don't use reddit often so I apologize if I'm doing this wrong. I am yet ANOTHER person coming here with questions about Mercari, haha.

I'm an international student living here in Osaka. I'm from the USA and I still use my international debit. I'm a bit of a big shopper, so I've been using Mercari quite a bit. My account didn't need full verification and let me super easily connect my debit, and I've been using it for a few months now without any issue.

Today I got a strange notif saying I've either exceeded my credit limit, or that my merpay balance is insufficient. I don't have a credit card though Mercari, and my debit shouldn't have any limits placed on it. I've seen previous threads of people finding where to increase their credit limits through Mercari, but mine doesn't have that as an option since I never registered with merpay.

I saw somewhere else saying there's a max of ¥500,000 automatically? Maybe I've misunderstood, but I have spent WELLLL under that amount. My age is verified with them (I'm 23), so I don't have the 18-19 year old limit placed on my account, either.

Does anyone have any advice? So sorry if this sounds bizarre or has been answered before! I'm still very new to Japanese payment services so I'm learning 🫡 Please be kind, I don't mean to sound ignorant or irritate you.

TLDR; Mercari seems to have a max credit limit, but I'm using a debit card?
