Hi,
I'm traveling to Japan for the first two weeks of November. The first week I'm planning to do the golden route of Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto.
For the second week, I prefer to visit a less crowded area that is either a 1-hr flight from Tokyo or around 2.5 hours via train. My return flight is in Tokyo, but if something is worth the extra cost, I'd change it to make it more convenient.
I can't drive, so I'm looking for walkable areas or areas with good transportation. I'm okay with taking taxis if it's not super far.
So far, I'm thinking either Kanazawa, day trips from Tokyo (Kawagoe, Yokohama), Nikko, or Hiroshima. I want to pick one general area so I'm not zig-zagging and rushing. Does anyone have previous experience visiting those areas in the fall, and how much time do you recommend allocating to them?
If you have other place recs, I like history, Edo-period architecture, rivers, the ocean, archaeology, books, movie theaters, animals, and nature.
