Visiting Kyoto next week for a few days (as part of my first-ever Japan trip), and doing a Hiroshima day trip while I'm there. I've already bought a 5-day regional pass (via JR West's site) since that was cheaper than booking a separate round trip. I still had a few questions even after looking through some other posts here (I've probably missed some other folks' answers, sorry!)
- How useful is this for travel within Kyoto? I know that it includes JR buses but I'm not clear how much of the Kyoto bus network that constitutes.
- I know that this would include local trains from Kyoto-Osaka, but not the Shinkansen between them – is it easy to identify the difference between the two?
- I'm supposed to be able to buy advance Shinkansen tickets between Osaka and Hiroshima online, but have had trouble finding the right link. How necessary is it to get advance tickets? I'd be traveling on a weekday.
- Are advance tickets needed for the Miyajimaguchi-Miyajima ferry? What about from Miyajima to the Peace Park? (I know the latter ferry isn't covered by the JR Pass).
