Hey all, I am a language school student, haven't been in Japan for long, still getting used to things. Now, this is not a sob story or excuse as to why I don't want to cook, I have plenty of time to make a meal…
I just don't really want to. Yes, it might be childish but as someone living alone, I really don't find it that much more economical to cook instead of eating out. Hell, even conbini bentos cost as much as eating out in a chain like Matsuya, Fukushin, Saizeriya, Yoshinoya, etc, so it's like you're better off in a restaurant.
In my home country, wating out was very expensive, so I cooked at home. But here in Japan, especially Tokyo, you can get filling meals for as little as 500 yen (with free ice cold water which normally costs 1-2 euros a bottle in my country).
Strangely, even though I've only been eating out, I've actually noticed that I've actually lost weight since coming here.
Still, I plan on buying a rice cooker, but ironically, not to save money but for times when I can't be bothered to go out lol. But financially, is cooking really that much cheaper than eating out, as a single guy?
