Hi everyone,
I’ll be moving to Japan soon for work, and this will be my first time living overseas, so I’m trying to decide between an Oakhouse Social Residence or a Social Apartment.
From what I understand:
- Oakhouse = shared kitchen/bathroom/common areas, usually fully furnished, more foreigner-friendly, flexible contracts
- Social Apartment = more like a real apartment with your own bath and mini kitchen, more privacy and modern feel, but slightly more expensive
The problem is I honestly still don’t know how long I’ll stay in Japan. It could be a few months, or possibly long-term depending on how things go.
What makes this hard is:
- Oakhouse seems safer/easier for foreigners and first-timers
- Social Apartment seems much more comfortable for daily life
- I’m worried shared bathrooms/kitchens might become tiring
For people who experienced both:
- Which one did you prefer?
- Is Social Apartment still foreigner-friendly even with limited Japanese? like moving in
- If i choose 1 year term then suddenly i want to move out. Will that be expensive?
Would really appreciate honest opinions, especially from people who moved to Japan alone for the first time.
Thanks!
