rules for own fireworks from Don Quijote?

I bought some fireworks (roman candles) from Don Quijote I picked up when shopping a few days ago. Thought they would be fun to light up on new years day, but now I am a little confused as there seems to be no area in Tokyo where I can light them up? I was a little confused why they would sell fireworks anyway but I thought riverbeds may be fine, but even that seems to be prohibited. Where can I light off some of these fireworks around Tokyo? If not I’ll just return them or throw them away.

  1. You can basically use small fireworks (handheld, fountain) in city parks (区立)in the following wards: Adachi, Katsushika, Kita, Koto, Sumida, Setagaya, Chuo, Nakano, and Bunkyo.

That said, the individual parks still mostly ban rocket/launch-types (打ち上げ花火, should be on the packaging). Maybe roman candles you can get away with since they don’t really ‘explode’ with a loud bang, which is the main reason rocket types are banned, but I think they are still technically ‘打ち上げ’.

  2. I went to the Koban and asked. They basically said I’d need to go to the ocean and only on certain beaches. I’d say you should go to your local main cop shop and ask the question. There will be some place within train distance. Won’t be in the city though.
