Interesting.What brought you here? I suppose it’s not a tourist’s spot.
Those ghosts have some tasty looking produce. 😉
Why would there be fresh produce in a ghost town? And why would a bus stop there 3 times a day?
Can you tell us about the store that seems to still be in business? Is that just for bus passengers?
😂😂 my spouse and I have been here too and had the exact same thought. It gave us “Children of the Corn” vibes. We ended up there after a scenic ride on the Akita Nairiku line in winter https://www.akita-nairiku.com/en/routemap/.
After a while, we found a soba restaurant. The proprietor was so surprised to see a couple of foreigners that she took a photo of us with her 90s era compact film camera. This was in 2012.
I used to live in a town where the high street that looked like that. Almost all the shops were closed for good. Not a complete ghost town as there are lots of factories and people do raise their families there and a lot of Brazilians live there. But the ‘night life’ district that has a few sleepy Filipina Snacks apparently used to be absolutely buzzing with people 50 years ago.
It was a strange 2 years.
Somebody’s living there… I see fresh fruit!
It’s giving me Inaba vibes from Persona 4. It’s kinda melancholic, which is strange because I’ve never been there before.
Japan is not just Tokyo.
Toyooka, Hyogo looked like this in the summer too
Leave before sundown, don’t touch any of the food.
Ghost town huh? After seeing the fruit…it’s giving Spirited Away lol. Don’t touch anything! 😅🤣
I have never met people that are so unwilling to go back to their home prefecture than Akitans. It just makes things worse and worse except for ghost town enthusiasts
This is so cool
What a beautiful place!
I don’t understand why it’s so desolate. Reminds me when The Lone Wanderer gets off the boat at Lookout Point.
This is so bizar, I lived in this town for a year as an exchange student. Seeing it posted here is such a mindfuck.
I went to Akita international university for a year and they had this program called CRESI where they would cart a bunch of students round to various dying towns to learn about local traditions in an attempt to keep them alive. The smallest village I went to had at the time a population of 89. The youngest person was 25
Silent Hill! :0
Buy now! I predict it’ll be a hub within 10 years.
Perfect place to live if the internet was really good
