Hi, im planning to apply to kyoto iup but I was really shocked why I only got a 1250 on the sat. I’m currently on my last year in highschool and my grades are great and I’m still boosting my extra curriculars. I’m wondering if I should retake my sat or should I just work more on my grades and extra curriculars so I can get into kyoto iup. Thank you.

A 1250 is about the 80th percentile, which is more than high enough for admissions to a standard level university. However, Kyoto University is world ranked university and therefore much more competitive. They are most likely looking for candidates with at least a 90th percentile score (1350 or above).
Whether or not a 1250 is good enough also depends on what you want to study. A 1250 is not high enough for a math or science department. It might be just acceptable for a humanities department but you will have to have an excellent recommendation (evaluation form) and a really solid essay to counter balance the test score.
I’d say keep your grades up and retake the test. The good news is most people do better on the SAT on their second try.
