I’m planning to move to Osaka for half a year to one year depending on my experience with the language school. My Japanese level is N4 and I’m planning to work the full 28 hours per week to sustain myself living in Japan.
I’ve looked into a few language schools in Osaka and have heard people say that some of them can be really intense, while I do enjoy learning the language I don’t think I have the energy to handle 3 extra hours of coursework everyday after school on top of taking probably labor work for 28 hours a week. And most of all I still want to have the time to enjoy the city and it’s culture, and not be in my room studying and doing homework all day.
If you know any language schools that are more laid back in terms of the intensity and coursework, or if you have experience with really intense ones that I can avoid, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.
**EDIT:** There seems to be some debate here so I wanted to clarify my situation some more, I am not eligible for a working holiday visa and if I was, that would’ve been my first choice in a heart beat. Reason being that, first the money, language school is not cheap, and I’ve managed to get to almost N3 with just learning on my own, so I could’ve learnt on my own during school hours, and have the rest of the day to myself. That being said, since WHV is not and option for me a student visa is the only option, I would say that my priority would be 50% Japanese learning and 50% all other things like maybe touring on weekends, and working for the money to do so, making friends/social, etc.
I have enough savings to live a basic life in Osaka, but there are so many good foods, things to do and places to go to that requires extra money, and imo working is also an experience for me on top of the money.
It could be subjective whether it’s right or wrong that I’m not 100% prioritizing Japanese learning on a student visa, but everyone has different goals and situations. I didn’t want to dig too deep into my own story since it’s getting off topic, but I appreciate everyone looking out for me.
