As the title says, I'm considering the idea of moving from the Tokyo area to Hokkaido for a few reasons.
I would be moving with my SO, which would cut down on rent and utilities. Factor in the lower cost of living and it sounds like a great idea on paper to me.
I've lived in a pretty cold area before (Colorado, USA) and tend to prefer to wear jackets and warm pants in lieu of shorts and t-shirt. I like the snow and outdoor activities like hiking and camping as well.
As for work, I'm currently working in an after-hours "eikaiwa" and work is hell. Understaffed and overworked in a nutshell. I'm thinking of switching to ALT as it seems to be a bit less stressful and lower demand. I know it's not necessarily an easy job, but I think it might be the right move for me. My SO is Japanese with pretty good English and there seems to be job opportunities they would qualify for.
Does anyone have experience living in Hokkaido as an ALT? I would love to hear your experiences and thoughts about how life is out there.
