Looking for an assist in figuring out what a character is saying in the Japanese dub for Stranger Things

Both Netflix and Amazon Prime have like 10 official dubs in various languages for all their their original shows, as well as subtitles for all of those languages. I thought it could be a good learning exercise to rewatch shows I’ve seen in English with the Japanese dubbed version (and the Japanese subtitles over it so I could see what they’re saying if I hear some new vocab).

The problem is that, while these are official Japanese subs and dubs of this show in English, the Japanese subtitles are written based on the ENGLISH script, rather than being the official closed captions of the JAPANESE script, which is definitely different (because I’m sure that they put a great deal of care into localizing it for a Japanese audience, and for a French audience, and every other audience they’ve dubbed for).

So, save for some lines that are pretty basic and are the same both in the Japanese dub and subs, most are pretty different. I think that, unless I use a VPN, this is probably the best I can get when it comes to this (even with a profile with my language set to 日本語, 99% of shows with official Japanese dubs aren’t able to be watched with those dubs because I’m in America).

In any case, there’s one particular line in the 4th season finale of Stranger Things that I’d like to see how it was rewritten for the Japanese script. It is about 1 hour and 17 minutes into S4 E9 (titled *”The Piggyback”*). A character says a nonsensical line, which is “I piggybacked from a pizza dough freezer”.

The Japanese subtitles for the English script write this line as 「冷凍庫から相乗りしたの」In the dub, she definitely doesn’t say this. I can at very least hear the loanword for “pizza”, but beyond that I am having difficulty transcribing the rest of what she says, even with the audio at half speed. It doesn’t help that I’m still a beginner with grammar and even with 1500 or so vocab words memorized, I still barely know any words in the grand scheme of things.

*Without getting very deeply into what the show is about (because if you haven’t seen it I doubt you want a full recap), the character is talking about basically using astral projection to put herself into another character’s mind, and did this by using an empty freezer as a sensory deprivation tank (this might be relevant because, depending on how it’s written in the Japanese script, it might make some reference to being in another character’s mind. No idea).*

I think localization is really cool, and while more often than not I think about it in terms of Japanese media being localized for Americans, I think it’s also interesting how American media is localized for a Japanese audience (from stuff as small as changing the name of some popular brand in America to a popular Japanese brand, or something larger, like rewriting an exchange between characters using much more natural Japanese speech).

I’d really appreciate it if someone took the time to listen to the line with the Japanese dub’s audio and could write it out for me so I could break the sentence down and analyze it better.
