I’m 27, live in the US, and I visited Japan this year. I went to Tokyo, Kamakura, Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Yokohama and Chiba. I really enjoyed my time there, and I’ve been learning Japanese. I’m only approaching N3, so I think my language skills have awhile to go but I’ve only been self studying for about a year and not full time.
I have a bachelors degree in communications, and I’m approaching 4 years of work experience, the last 3 being as a remote support analyst doing a wide range of work from client support to reviewing job applications and taking on small to large projects involving analyzing our companies proprietary data.
I’d consider my role “tech adjacent”.
I’m realistic with the fact that long term living in Japan is not like visiting and I’ve done a fair amount of research.
Really, im just trying to figure out if I’m over my head and what career options are there are for me. Outside of work I’ve been progressively more into photography and I’d like to learn coding, but finding time while learning Japanese and work can be hard.
I guess I feel my main reasons to move into Japan is too further my hobby for photography, be in a more walkable/safe environment where I feel like I can go enjoy going out, I’d like to regularly travel to other areas of Asia such as Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea, and I strive for eventually reaching N1.
My timeline is 2-4 years, enough time to save money and progress my Japanese further/have more career experience. Any thoughts? Anything I can do now to make my chance of success more likely?
