Hey guys,
I'm currently a 2nd year undergraduate student at UC Berkeley studying chemistry and microbial biology. Usually I spend my summers doing research as I intend to pursue an MD-PhD, but for the next few years I'm planning to live with my mother back in Japan during the summers to take care of my very ill grandmother. I was wondering if it is possible for an undergrad student like me from the US to participate in undergrad research/internships at a Japanese university or company during the summer (paid or unpaid, anywhere in Japan is fine but closer to Kyotango would be great). I'm half fluent in Japanese (conversational is okay, writing/reading not great) but honestly even with my half fluent level I could probably only really work in an English speaking environment (I realize this filters out most opportunities). I've already applied to Berkeley's summer research opportunities in Japan, but they are incredibly selective. My interests are in infectious diseases and molecular biology but I'm happy to work in any chemistry/life science related labs. I'd appreciate any suggestions or even redirection to a different subreddit. Thank you so much!
