I am an accountant from India and work for a large consulting firm. I am being offered a secondment opportunity to Tokyo for a minimum of 3 years. My partner will look for a job if I say yes, and we do have a few months before we make the move so I am hopeful that should work out. We also have a 2 year old kid, who will be almost 3 by the time we move. And we have a 3 year old dog of a small breed, who will also move with us if we do move.
ALL NUMBERS IN YEN, PRE TAXES
In India, my CTC is approximately 7.8 million YEN (plus a bonus of around 1.2 – 2.5 million YEN, basis performance ratings). I am being offered approximately 9 million YEN plus accommodation, travel and around 15% bonus. Apart from our home in Japan, we will also run a house in India since some of our family will be here, and we will end up spending 1 million YEN annually on that. Is this a fair deal?
I am excited to go but I am have a few concerns – (a) if my partner's job doesn't work out, will we be able to run two houses on my single income? (b) we will end up leaving behind a bunch of comforts here including a full time babysitter, a car to get anywhere, hybrid work model in India – is this fair compensation for all the struggle that we will go through? (c) the employer in Japan is not paying for insurance, only covering social security which seems like a red flag to us.
