How can I write my adress (Outside Japan) in Japanese?

I have this application form that I'll send to Japan and I realized I don't really know how to write my full home adress in Japanese

  1. Are they asking for it in japanese or will romanji/katakana not work?

City name – district – home address

In that order should be good

  2. I recommend writing it in English (or the official way it is written in your country). You don’t need to translate, and in fact, it might be confusing.

In addition, you should use all capital letters.

  3. In general, unless specifically asked, do not translate things like this. Write them as they are officially written in the place that has jurisdiction over them.

Imagine they tried to send a letter to that address, the local postie isn’t going to understand Japanese.

  4. You don’t do that, ever. Its super confusing, and you will 100% fuck up. Not even japanese people write overseas addresses in katakana.

  5. Google “how to write Japanese addresses”. I don’t mean this to be snarky but there’s a really really really really good and very extensive article about how this stuff works both from the point of view of writing it in English or Japanese. This isn’t really a Japanese learning question either.

  6. I live in Japan and I write addresses in English when I mail things so I don’t see how it would be a big deal writing it in English when you’re not in the country?
