I’d like advice on who should be the owner of a home in Iwaki. We are home hunting and research says that it may be easier for my wife to be sole owner. (I am a resident of the U.S. and my wife is a citizen of Japan)
We will be home hunting in early 2025 and then return to the U.S. until spending more time there next year. We are both retired, will not have income in Japan and the house will be not be rented. My wife does not want to pay Japan resident fees like health insurance so she does not want to apply for My Number until our next stay –probably late 2025.
Of course we will not have a permanent address in Japan until after the purchase – assuming we find something during this trip. The house will be paid for in cash so there is no need for a loan.
We have not found anyone in Iwaki that could guide us and we want to make sure we have all needed documents before leaving the U.S. Any advice is much appreciated.
