I just watched a Youtube video of someone interviewing foreigners and when one said they were an ALT they had a noticeable reaction of disrespect.
I have friends who say they lie about being an ALT, and Ive heard people say to never put it on your resume if you can find a way to cover it up.
And then people say they hate the job. The biggest gaijin Youtuber said his ALT was the worst job he ever had. Horrendous. Ive heard countless times about how depressing and soul sucking the job is.
How did being an ALT become worse than being a prostitute in Japan? Im exaggerating but I think you get the point, and sometimes it almost seems that way.
If you're financially secure enough to support yourself while you ALT, and you like teaching and like/want to live in Japan, it doesn't seem any worse than getting a language school student visa.
