I'm moving to Japan in about 4 hours (I'm currently on the flight haha) on a working holiday visa. I'll be living in Japan for 5 months (January to May) and I won't be working during my time there so I want to file for pension exemption. I don't plan to live in Japan in the future (although I will definitely return to visit).
The sharehouse I'm staying at has someone who is going to come with me to city hall to help with my address registration. They claim that working holiday visa holders are exempt from pension payments when they aren't working. However, I've read online (and on here) about needing to specifically file for pension exemption. This leads me to 2 questions:
- Do I need to file for pension exemption or will I be exempt due to being on WHV and not working?
- If I do file for exemption, do I do that at the ward office as well? Could I go back and do it the next day so I don't awkwardly tell the person supporting me that they're wrong?
Thank you!
