Headed to Okinawa this month to renew my military retirement ID card. My questions are more geared to Kadena Air Base.
-
Which gate do I use? Google Maps shows an ID card center outside of gate 1. Is that the place?
-
Here in Thailand, we have an app (BOLT) to obtain motorcycle and vehicle taxis. Y'all have something similar in Okinawa?
-
Kadena Air Base. Can I enter in a civilian taxi, or do I need to rent a bicycle or e-bicycle?
-
Since Naha airport and Kadena Air Base are about a 90 minute cab ride away (according to Google Maps), can anyone recommend a hotel along the route?
-
Any other info I need to know?
Thanks in advance.

1. You will need to bring a passport with you to Gate 1 in order to get temp access. Make an appointment with DEERs prior to your arrival. Its a straight line from the gate about 2 miles.
2. Cant answer; not sure.
3. You can use a civilian Taxi but you need to make sure its one that has base access. They will say On/Off post on the side of the taxi in big letters.
4. Taxi costs about 8000 yen from Kadena to Naha Airport and takes about 45 minutes. Or you can take a bus for about 1000 yen 1.5 hr trip.
to get in to any base in a taxi,u need to get “autorized on/off base” (usually is written in the car)or u just ask the taxi driver ,they umderstand english.U can use Uber app here,for rides,for food(uber eats app);
and no motorcycles cabs hereš¤£
Mr Kinjo for a simple cheap hotel. They are all over.
You can schedule at the Camp Foster ID center as well if you arenāt committed to Kadena. That will be closer than Kadena from the airport by 15-20 minutes depending on traffic.
You can use the App called GO for taxi.
DiDi is an app you can download to hail a taxi, and it works but I find there is limited availability.
