Hello all!
26M, currently doing a diploma in game design. Like many in this sub, I've always been a big fan of Japanese media; be it games, animation etc. Hence, when I decided to become an animator and game designer; planning a move to Japan seemed like a logical goal as….well it has such a big industry for these. Then I learned about the dark side of the anime industry and yea…..it sucks when dreams get crushed lol.
Anyways after doing some research I found that the gaming industry might not be as bad as the anime industry. Working hours may be similar but I've heard 3D artists in character rigging etc get at least decent wages compared to 2d animators. Hence would like to know some more info on this.
The way I plan my move is by firstly finishing my diploma; then having at least 2-3 years of work ex where I build my portfolio (giving me enough time to learn Japanese as well) and then applying for jobs.
PS; My reason for moving to Japan goes beyond simple cultural appreciation. I'm not from a first world nation and the situation in my country is going from bad to worse; hence moving to Japan or any developed nation is mostly for economic reasons.
