If we are criticizing Umino for his underwhelming/underdeveloped character, we should do the same for Tsuji

What exactly is Tsuji's gimmick? A guy who likes to smile? When Tsuji came in, I thought he'd have this kind of dark and charismatic deceiver type character (something like Tom Ellis' Lucifer), where he'd be able to flip between heel and face whenever he wanted to. Well that didn't really work out that way.

They try to get over the "hybrid athlete, gene blast, change of New Japan" thing, but that's not a character or a gimmick, that is a goal. That's a motivation. Tsuji's entire presentation is also all over the place; he dresses flamboyantly, tries to wrestle every style, then he smiles a lot in between, and then acts like an overconfident prick. It reminds me of that time period where MJF would dress like Ric Flair, act like Roddy Piper and then cut promos like Jake Roberts – you can't be three completely different things at once. Pick and stick to it.

Muta had a concise and layered character. Nakamura had a concise and layered character. As their spiritual successor, Tsuji should follow in those footsteps. I still like the guy a lot, but he needs to focus more on his character.
