Well, Canada can certainly attest to the โvalueโ the administration puts into their allies.
Canada looking for new best friends – call us
I think countries are slowly coming around to the fact that Trump’s first presidency wasn’t a momentary bout of insanity for the American voter and that this is just an aspect of who we are. All countries that have longstanding dependencies with the United States should look to more politically stable nations or find other backup plans. I see the U.S. becoming more isolationist, partly from their own will, but mostly from other countries needing to band together.
This will probably never happen given current political landscape but an alliance between Japan,Korea and China would be something that could rival what NAFTA used to be. Again, this will probably never happen
TBH Japan, South Korea and Taiwan should be getting their own nukes at this point. Weโve seen what happens to non-nuclear minor powers (Ukraine, Libya) and expecting North Korea to stay stagnant for more years ahead is being really optimistic
Every country should pursue their own path in trump world. He’s clearly shown the us is an unreliable ally at best and an active danger at worst. Treaties mean nothing to his regime (see him railing against the unfairness of the USMCA, a treaty negotiated by his first government), nor do laws. Trump’s word is notoriously worthless, has been for decades.
Seeking agreements with nations that understand stability and honoring their word long term is an imperative for all current us allies.
Empty words as long as the bases stay. The sovereign is he who decides on the exception. Japan cannot decide for itself. The true power is in the United States. Uncomfortable, but that is how it is.
It is difficult for Japan, which relies on imports for many goods and even labor and has territorial disputes with China, North Korea, and Russia, to part company with the United States.
However, Japan’s business ties with China have deepened over the years, and public opinion seems to be gradually changing.
If Trump continues to do business on the grounds of defense, it is possible that he will lean pro-China, though not pro-Russia or pro-North Korea.
Already the largest number of foreigners living in Japan are now Chinese.
Japan should nut up and do something about russia. yall did once before. I’m pretty sure I have a sword with the stains to prove it.
Get nukes, develop semiconductor industry and revamp military.
Close US bases, amend article 9, and build up the military.
If only japan government doesn’t support fuji tv sex scandal madness aka Epstein 2.0…๐๐๐
