How to report self-study?

There's a spot on the application that asks to list any kind of Japanese language study that you've had including self-study; but given that it's also asking for specific, completed coursework, I'm unsure what to report since:

1. There is no one specific resource that I've used.
2. My study of Japanese is ongoing.
3. Although I first started trying to learn Japanese five years ago, it's been inconsistent and so I haven't actually studied that long nor do I have five years worth of knowledge to show for (maybe more like two).

Any ideas what they're looking for here? Much thanks!
