I'm in my second year and I've made a respectable effort learning Japanese and keeping my career skills improving. You hear all sorts of stories shout how doing it for years MIGHT negatively affect your career, and stories about it being a good first step into teaching or tefl in another country, or even the fabled 'foot in the door' ect.
Just asking people to share theirs.
