Booking music shows as a foreigner

hi!

i'm a musician and i'm looking to perform in Japan in the future. i know the way to do this is to get in touch with similar artists and promoters and bond with them enough to arrange that for you, but i have a few questions on the ~legal~ aspect of this.

can i, as a tourist, legally perform at a show, get paid and/or sell merch at said show?

i'm sure you would require an artist visa as every place in the world, but i'm talking about shows with max 50 people in the audience, mostly noise, electronic and experimental pop acts (venues like FORESTLIMIT, bonobo, BUSHBASH, etc.) would the venue owners, bands, organizers and attendees simply ignore the legality of it, or are the rules ingrained enough that it isn't possible?

second question would be, if i move to japan and get a student visa, does playing live shows count into those "maximum work hours" foreigners have or since most of the stuff is "indie" and pay-to-play, are these hours not counted into the total?

i ask because at my country, tons of foreign artists play shows all the time + sell merch and everyone ignores that it isn't done in a legal way, so i wanna know beforehand how it is in Japan.

thank you for your answers!
