  1. I’m wondering if someone could help me distinguish between different ways of saying “why”. I have heard “nande”, “naze” and “doushite”, and I can’t tell when is most appropriate to use each.

    Any help would be appreciated!

  2. >もう片方の手は宙を扇ぐようにパタパタと振られている

what does 宙を扇ぐ mean? is it just describing a fanning motion?

  3. Very trivial question, but are usages of はらう like 祓う , 追い払う, 取り払う actually etymologically related to the (支)払う as in paying or is it just a coincidental homonym type thing?
